Prof. Yannis Dimitriadis (https://www.gsic.uva.es/members/yannis) is Professor of Telematics Engineering of the University of Valladolid, Spain. He is also the coordinator of the GSIC/EMIC research group, an inter-disciplinary group, integrating 20 researchers and practitioners from the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and Pedagogy. His research interests include learning design, design patterns and the conceptual and technological support to the orchestration of computer-supported collaborative learning processes.

Dr. Stian Håklev grew up in Norway, and have also spent significant time working and studying in Italy, Sweden, China, Indonesia and Mexico. His undergraduate degree was in International Development Studies at University of Toronto at Scarborough, during which he spent a year working for CARE International in Indonesia, and his honor’s thesis is about the community library movement in Indonesia. Dr. Xiao Hu,  Associate Professor,  the University of Hong Kong

Dr. Hu’s research focuses on the intersection of information technologies and user behaviors. She uses machine learning and data mining methods to analyze user interactions with information systems. She is also interested in the affective aspects of information and users.

Dr.  Yael Kali,  Associate Professor of Technology Enhanced Learning,  University of Haifa

Dr. Yael Kali, together with the TEL-Design Team members, explores learning and teaching with Information Communication Technologies (ICT), at various levels, from junior high school to higher education. Her work focuses on the role of design principles for supporting Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL).

Dr. Ady Kidron, Post-Doctoral Scholar, University of California, Berkeley

Dr. Kidron examines the nature of interdisciplinary thinking and interdisciplinary learning, and their relation to knowledge integration processes within the context of technology-enhanced learning communities.

Dr. Guoshuai Lan, Vice Director, School of Education, Henan University

Dr. Lan focuses on asssessing metacognition in an online community of inquiry; and relationships between Students’ Academic Achievement and Community of Inquiry in an Online Learning Environment for a Blended Course.

Prof. Nancy Law, Deputy Director, Centre for Information Technology in Education (CITE), the University of Hong Kong

Prof. Law’s research interests include international comparative studies of technology-enabled learning innovations, models of ICT integration in schools and change leadership, computer supported collaborative learning and the use of expressive and exploratory computer-based learning environments. She is working in the development of a learning design pattern language and an associated platform, the Learning Design Studio, which is part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional Project involving HKU, HKUST and MIT in the development of An Open Learning Design, Data Analytics and Visualization Framework for E-learning.

Dr. Jing LENG, assistant professor, East China Normal University

Area of research interest: Computer-supported Collaborative Learning; Educational Data Mining; Fostering Critical Thinking through Online Collaborative Learning. She currently works on some research projects related to game-based learning and design, computer supported collaborative learning and the use of learning analytics to study online discourse data.

Professor Yan Li is the Director of Research Center for AI in Education and Director of Department of Curriculum and Learning Science, Zhejiang University. Her research interests include distance education, ICT education, media education, AI in education, diffusion of educational innovations, and etc.  Her possible topic for the colloquium is “College students’ deep learning strategy design and application: based on online discussion practice” or “K-12 teachers and students’ user experience about intelligent learning platform. ”

Prof. Bart Rienties, the Institute of Educational Technology, the Open University UK

Prof. Rienties is programme director Learning Analytics within IET and head of Data Wranglers, whereby he leads of group of learning analytics academics who conduct evidence-based research and sense making of Big Data at the OU. As educational psychologist, he conducts multi-disciplinary research on work-based and collaborative learning environments and focuses on the role of social interaction in learning. His primary research interests are focused on Learning Analytics, Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning, and the role of motivation in learning.

Prof. Carolyn Rose, Carnegie Mellon University

Prof. Rose focuses on better understanding the social and pragmatic nature of conversation, and using this understanding to build computational systems that can improve the efficacy of conversation between people, and between people and computers. She invokes approaches from computational discourse analysis and text mining, conversational agents, and computer supported collaborative learning.

Area of research interest: Language and cross-cultural learning with technologies. Prof. Shadiev will report his learning design on cross-cultural learning using speech-enabled language translation (SELT) technology.

Prof. Junjie Shang, Exe. Director of the Lab of Learning Sciences, Peking University

Area of research interest: Game-based Learning, Learning Sciences and Technology. Prof. Shang will report the Study of Game-based Learning from the Perspective of Learning Sciences, and share some cases of game-based learning designed in his Lab of Learning Sciences of Peking University. They designed some math games based on some research findings in the field of learning sciences and game-based learning.

Dr. Pengfei Xu, Assistant Professor, Beijing Normal University

Area of research interest: Machine Learning, Educational Data Mining. He will report a web-based application, Jupyter Notebook, for writing and demonstrating codes interactively. He focuses on the learning design problems in Jupyter ecosystem, to future foster its adoption in educational scenarios.

Dr. Jingjing Zhang, Beijing Normal University

Area of research interest: Learning analytics, learning sciences. Her topic will be a novel LA for LD methodology to investigate the implementation of LD in an online distance learning context. A key innovation is the focus on patterns of LD. The study highlights that applying LA to LD might, in a virtuous circle, contribute to the validity and effectiveness of both, and to the enhancement of online distance learning.
